Jurgen Klopp's update on Gini Wijnaldum's Liverpool future following Thiago transfer

Jurgen Klopp has refuted suggestions that Thiago Alcantara's imminent arrival at Liverpool will mean that Gini Wijnaldum has to leave.

Reds midfielder Wijnaldum has just one year left on his Anfield deal, and has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona this summer.

The Catalans now have Wijnaldum's former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman in charge, and the ex-Southampton and Everton manager is said to have made the 29-year-old one of his top targets this summer.

Wijnaldum is also said to have been interested in the move, but having held talks with Klopp before last week's Premier League opener against Leeds United at Anfield, he also stated that he would be happy to stay with the champions this season.

The Dutchman played the full 90 minutes in the 4-3 win over Marcelo Bielsa's side, and Klopp says Thiago's signing won't have an impact on the future of any player at the club.

"If it happens it has no impact on anyone's future in a negative way," said Klopp.

"Someone has to leave? No. No impact."

Thiago will sign a four-year deal with Liverpool in the coming hours as the Reds successfully conclude their summer-long chase for the midfielder, although Klopp was being typically coy when he was asked about the signing at his press conference prior to Sunday's trip to Chelsea.

"Hansi Flick is a successful man and nice person but nothing to say," said Klopp when responding to Bayern boss Flick's emotional goodbye to Thiago on Thursday.

"It's not official until it is announced. It looks quite promising!. But hands are tied.

"It would be quite useful as a fan to look at some LFC channels over the day and we will see what happens."
