Jurgen Klopp's transfer headache summed up as Liverpool reflect on Timo Werner's Chelsea move

Chris Sutton has summed up Liverpool's transfer dilemma.

The Reds looked short in attack during Sunday's Merseyside derby goalless draw against Everton, with Takumi Minamino failing to fill the boots of Mohamed Salah, who was an unused substitute.

Liverpool already ignored making any deal for reported target Timo Werner, with the RB Leipzig striker instead joining Chelsea, who would seemingly be able to guarantee him more first-team minutes.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Sutton argued it will be difficult to find a striker of sufficient quality that is willing to sit on the bench due to the Reds' formidable front three of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

The former Celtic star also praised Divock Origi for the role he has played when stepping in upfront.

He said: "I actually think Origi has done alright when he's been asked to go on.

"It's a very, very difficult balancing act because the front three at Liverpool, if fit, will always play.

"The difficulty is, and they were linked with Timo Werner, of course, is getting someone in of really high calibre and asking them to sit on the bench.

"That's going to be extremely difficult for Jurgen Klopp.

"I actually thought the other day that the game was absolutely crying out for Mo Salah.

"The bottom line is, had Manchester City absolutely been pushing Liverpool, I think we'd have seen Salah put on.

"That's Jurgen Klopp's priority to think it's not essential, the league is wrapped up, we can leave him on the bench."

Liverpool are not believed to be preparing to splash the cash on any big-money move this summer but this predicament could become something Klopp needs to consider whenever they do dip into the market.
