Jurgen Klopp's 'training ground problem' gives Everton best chance against Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp's lack of time to prepare for the Merseyside derby could play into Everton's hands.

That's according to former Toffees defender Joleon Lescott, who believes it is the perfect time to face a Reds side still hurting from their shock thrashing at the hands of Aston Villa.

Whilst almost two weeks will have passed by the time the derby kicks off at Goodison Park on Saturday, an international break will have hampered both sides' preparation for the game.

Speaking to Ladbrokes, Lescott has argued that this will impact Liverpool more than the in-form Toffees.

That is due to the fact that Liverpool's errors at the back were exposed in the defeat to Aston Villa and Klopp will not have enough time to drill a different defensive gameplan into his side ahead of the derby.

He said: "Liverpool are odds-on favourites, but I'm not so sure about that.

"It's obviously going to be closer than it's been for a while based on results in recent weeks.

"This is the best chance Everton have had at winning in recent years and it's actually been perfect timing after the Liverpool defeat to Aston Villa.

"That heavy a defeat meant something clearly wasn't working tactically but players all left for international duty a day later, which means Jurgen Klopp and his players will only have one training session together to rectify things, so I doubt he's going to change the whole set-up of the back four in one day, which could be good for Everton."

He added: "Everton have proven they can perform consistently at the top.

"In terms of the title, I think it's too early, but certainly top four. If they come out of this game not losing, it's huge for them. I expect them to be in the top six, top four come the end of the season.

"Goodison Park is such a hostile place to visit as an away player so it's a shame there won't be fans here, but I'd still expect the same kind of energy we're used to seeing in Merseyside Derbies, and in James Rodriguez, Everton have the best signing of the season, without a doubt. In terms of predictions, I'd say 2-1 Everton."
