Jurgen Klopp's TEAM anagram on white board set early Liverpool tone

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has revealed one of the core messages Jurgen Klopp gave to the team when he was first appointed as manager in 2015.

October 8 marks five years since Klopp was named as the new manager at Anfield, replacing Brendan Rodgers, who had been sacked four days prior.

Klopp had left Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2015 and was keen to take a break from football but was enticed by the project at Liverpool and in his first press conference vowed to make the club winners again.

And he has well and truly delivered on that promise winning the Champions League, Club World Cup and Premier League.

Klopp's first match as Liverpool manager was against Tottenham and it was already clear he had got across his philosophy and ideas to the players.

Mignolet was Liverpool's No 1 goalkeeper at the time and the Belgian says Klopp made a presentation to the team in the build up to the match using the anagram: T - Team, E - Enthusiastic, A - Ambitious, M - Mentally-strong machines.

“He wrote it down and then expanded on what it all meant," he told The Athletic.

"I remember him saying that terrible was how opponents were going to feel after going up against us for 90 minutes.

"Then he talked about enthusiasm, ambition and mental strength. "It was all about being part of a team — everyone working together and being a machine to break opponents down.”

Speaking in June, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti said Klopp had built the 'perfect machine' after winning the league title.

"Klopp is the architect behind the success of this team, not only in the Premier League - but also for what he managed to do during these five years since his arrival," he said.

"With a lot of patience, he was able to build a perfect machine."
