Jurgen Klopp's side are 'on fire' but you can't say they're great yet insists Liverpool legend

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has told the current Reds side that they can only be considered 'great' once they have won multiple titles – but has backed Jurgen Klopp's men to get there.

A 2-0 victory over old foes Manchester United – the only opponent to have taken points off them so far this season – ensured that Liverpool have now defeated every team they have faced in the Premier League so far this term.

With 21 wins from 22 matches, the Reds now enjoy a 16 point lead at the summit with a game in hand on all their rivals as they close in on their first League Championship since 1990.

However, former Liverpool captain and manager Souness, who won five League Championships, three League Cups and three European Cups as a player with the Reds, reckons Klopp's side will have to maintain their stellar standards over a more prolonged period to be considered something truly special.

Souness told Sky Sports : “You can't say they're a great team until they win back to back leagues, a few European Cups, but I think they will get there.

“City have made it easy for them this year, because they haven't had the pressure.

“Liverpool are on fire, they feel they can win every game. They're playing with a freedom that many teams don't have.”
