Jurgen Klopp's shock Liverpool admission as Anfield icon finally steps on hallowed ground

There he stood with his smile as dazzling as the gleaming trophy he'd just got his hands on.

Jurgen Klopp, king of the Kop. Jurgen Klopp, Premier League champion.

For thirty years winning the title had remained unchartered territory for Liverpool FC. But for 53 years an iconic piece of terra firma had remained untrodden ground for Klopp.

The match was meant to be merely a build-up to the main event of the lifting of the trophy. Turns out the Chelsea game (it was a magnificent 5-3 Liverpool home in case you're asking) was every bit as spectacular.

Then again, Klopp's side have got used to winning these past couple of seasons. Raising the league silverware is not a routine. Neither surprisingly is venturing into one of the world's most famous ends of a stadium.

Because despite being LIverpool manager for five years, it wasn't until late on Wednesday night that Klopp had stepped foot on the Kop.

The German said: "You want to share this moment with your loved ones. My family means a lot to me.

"I loved the moment. It is strange standing on the stage, there is not as many as you imagine in the stadium but the people who organised it did a special job. I was never before on the Kop and it was pretty special. It was a great idea."

It was the perfect night for Liverpool, its fans and of course Klopp who in typical relentless fashion is already thinking about their next match.

He added: "Absolutely special. We don't have to compare because we never won it before. I think the boys gave us the opportunity on the pitch to give us a special night.

"Putting in this performance on the pitch, nice goals, super football, we could enjoy it so far and we will enjoy the rest of the night.

"We have space and potential for improvement and we will work on that. Now we have to have a party, then recover, then Newcastle. We have 96 points and it would be really nice to get 99 points.

"It was absolutely great to see the trophy. It made it more special the families could be there. I didn't see my family for a pretty long time."
