Jurgen Klopp's "sack" fears can inspire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Man Utd turnaround

Struggling Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can take inspiration from an unlikely source as he looks turn around his side’s poor form.

The Red Devils have not won in the Premier League since their trip to West Ham more than a month ago, with a draw against Everton their only point since that visit to the London Stadium.

It is a run of form that has seen United drop to seventh in the top-flight and has left them eight points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, a hammer blow to their title aspirations.

Even in the Champions League wins over Villarreal and Atalanta, the Red Devils’ performance has left much to be desired, with both sides going in front at Old Trafford before United fought back.

Solskjaer has reportedly been given three games to save his job, which will seriously test the Norwegian as they travel to Tottenham and Atalanta before hosting Manchester City.

But he can look to the manager who plotted United’s latest humiliation for encouragement that he can turn things around.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp masterminded the Reds’ 5-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday, but has admitted that he was concerned that he could be sacked right at the start of his tenure at Anfield.

Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers at the start of October 2015, but won just one of his first four league games.

That poor start to his time at Anfield led the German to believing that the club’s owners could decide they made a mistake and let him go.

The former Dortmund boss knew heading into the Liverpool job that it would take time to rebuild the club and credits the reds for sticking with him.

“It was clear we needed time and we couldn't fix it overnight. I had to ask for time, that was how it was,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“I knew before that in my career, I had never got the sack, but I knew, now I was on a different level and if I cannot deliver here, quick enough, I would get the sack.

“So that was why I said [at the start] if I sit here in four years, still, then something [good] will have happened. It was not that I asked for four years, it was just a bit of time.

“We got that and the nice thing was after seven or eight games, our owners were really positive about the situation with me and my coaches already, but after that many games, they knew we were on the right path.

“From that moment on, they didn't question it one second anymore. After that they were full of faith for us and said that is the path we stay on and it will be fine.

“Who knows if you can win something in this difficulty, but that is what we tried.”

Though the situations are different, with Solskjaer having already been in charge for nearly three years, Klopp’s message that things can turn around with time will be a boost to the United boss.

Much like Klopp, Solskjaer has a chance to quickly put his recent woes behind him with games against City and Chelsea coming up.

The Liverpool boss masterminded impressive wins over both to show that he was indeed the man to guide the Reds’ recovery, something Solskjaer will be looking to repeat.
