Jurgen Klopp's response when asked how he's planning to stop Lionel Messi

Jurgen Klopp says he'll need "a few nights" to work out how to stop Lionel Messi when Liverpool come face-to-face with him in the Champions League semi-finals.

The Reds will face the Barcelona ace after they eased past Porto 6-1 on aggregate with a 4-1 victory in the second leg in Portugal on Wednesday.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk scored as the Reds reached the last four of European football's premier competition for the second time in successive seasons.

And when asked what his plans are for Messi after the game, Klopp said in his press conference: “Thank God I don’t have to think about that tonight. I have a few nights.

"No one has so far managed it, but we will try. We have a few jobs before that.”

The German added that the experience of last season's run to the final has helped them this time around.

"We played better this season," he told BT Sport.

"It was always going to be a whirlwind here and that was what it was. Second half the energy level dropped for Porto and we could control the game and score the goals.

"We are more experienced, that is clear. We had difficult away games and we knew it would be the same as at City and Roma last year. It is all good. A difficult game but we go to the semi-finals.

"It is first time for me to play Barcelona , apart from in friendlies. I am looking forward to that."
