Jurgen Klopp's response to Liverpool transfer links to Lorenzo Insigne

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed speculation linking Liverpool with a move for Lorenzo Insigne.

Reports in Italy this week suggested Liverpool were keen on the Napoli striker following a bust-up with boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Napoli are said to be willing to move skipper Insigne on this summer if their valuation is met, with the Italian giants looking for around £60m.

But Liverpool will not be making a move for the striker with Jurgen Klopp asked about the reported interest ahead of his side's clash with Huddersfield .

"We will not sign Lorenzo Insigne. He is a very good player but he has a long-term contract at Napoli," the Liverpool boss said.

“We will not even try it.”

Liverpool brought in three new places last summer while Naby Keita also arrived from RB Leipzig.

A deal or Nabil Fekir fell through at the 11th hour and the Reds opted against moving for a replacement in January.

Klopp, whose side slipped down to second in the table following Manchester City's derby victory, admitted he is always looking at ways to strengthen his squad.

“We will try to improve the team always. We will try it always in training, I think that is the best way to do it.

“The team is pretty well balanced. Our plans are not for the public, that’s how it is.

“Will it be the biggest transfer window of Liverpool? No, but you’d have been surprised if I said yes.

“Our eyes are always open. We always look. What happens if and when but nothing to say in the moment.”

The Reds face Huddersfield on Friday and need a favour from one of City's remaining three opponents to claim the title.
