Jurgen Klopp's other fume, Sadio Mane avoids punishment and other Liverpool moments missed vs Bournemouth

Liverpool strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League table with victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored after Callum Wilson's controversial opener to earn the Reds a 2-1 victory.

The result meant Jurgen Klopp's side have still only lost one top-flight game since January 2019 and have now again moved 25 points clear at the summit.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at Anfield.

Klopp makes his point to Pep

Jurgen Klopp was somewhat agitated for parts of the game on Saturday. And not just due to the strange decisions of the officials.

Towards half-time, the Reds boss was deep in discussion with assistant Pep Lijnders in the dugout, pointing animatedly back and forth between a nearby screen and the pitch.

Whatever it was, it clearly had an effect as Liverpool secured a much-needed victory, prompting the return of the manager's famed triple fist-pump towards the Kop.

This time, though, Klopp mixed it up a bit by then aiming another treble salvo at the Main Stand. Keeping us on our toes, Jurgen.

Mane avoids yellow peril

Sadio Mane tested the patience of lamentable referee Paul Tierney on Saturday.

First there was his effort to keep an overhit pass in play by attempting to catch it, resulting in Bournemouth's Jefferson Lerma heading straight over to the whistleblower demanding a yellow card.

And in the second half, Mane then became involved in a battle for a loose ball before dumping Lerma on the turf with a late tackle.

Tierney still didn't see it worthy of a booking. Steady on, Sadio.

Van Dijk's top Billing

Rewind a few weeks, and you may recall how Virgil van Dijk ushered West Ham's Robert Snodgrass across the pitch as if shooing a duck out of his garden.

And the Dutchman was at it again against Bournemouth.

This time it was Philip Billing on the receiving end, Van Dijk thwarting a potential counter-attack by cajoling the Cherries midfielder towards the touchline on the halfway line.

Anfield proper loved it. It's becoming a Virgil trademark.

Different look to scoreline for Reds

Liverpool may have relied on the tried and trusted to get the job done, but there was one debutant inside Anfield on Saturday.

And only the most eagle-eyed, pedantic of observers would have noticed.

The scoreboard inside the stadium has been given a belated mid-season overhaul with a sparkling new typeface and series of graphics to highlight key moments in the game.

Mind you, there was none to hand to convey the sheer incredulity at Bournemouth's opener being allowed by VAR.
