Jurgen Klopp's message to Virgil van Dijk after seeing Liverpool star "limping"

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted he was left scared by the sight of Virgil van Dijk down on the ground injured while away on international duty with the Netherlands.

Van Dijk, who missed the majority of last season with an ACL injury, has only just returned to the first-team fold at the beginning of this campaign, featuring in all three of the Reds Premier League games thus far.

The Dutch skipper went down holding his ankle following a high challenge from Halil Dervisoglu in the build up to Turkey's consolation strike in their 6-1 defeat at the hands of Van Dijk's side.

Speaking to Liverpool's official website, Klopp conceded he was worried over the fitness of his defender - so much so, he made the 30-year-old send a video of him walking without a limp after the game.

"With Virgil, that was obviously a scary moment, you can imagine. I sent him a message after the game, ‘Are you alright?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘100 per cent?’ ‘200 per cent.’ ‘Come on, send me a video of you without limping...’ ‘I’m only limping off."

Klopp went on to explain how his fears were quickly laid to rest after a brief phone call with the Dutch international.

"So he called me from the bus and said, ‘Boss, I’m fine!’ I said, ‘Why are you limping then?’ He said, ‘My wife asked the same!’ So, yeah, that was a bit of a tricky moment but apart from that, no, all fine."

Van Dijk was in high spirits as a result of his nation's win, regardless of the late knock.

Following the 6-1 demolition job, Van Dijk took to twitter to say: "Proud captain today, great performance all round. What a great atmosphere too! Now time to head back to Liverpool and prepare for a tough couple of weeks ahead."

Van Dijk's clean bill of health will be a huge relief to Liverpool fans as they are already missing a number of players ahead of the daunting trip to Leeds' Elland Road.

Roberto Firmino will be unavailable, as explained by Klopp who revealed: "Bobby is not [fit], it happened in the game [against Chelsea ] obviously."

James Milner faces a rage against time to enjoy a reunion against his former side, as he is yet to return to full training as of yet.

"Millie, we have to see. Millie has to be part of team training yet, he was not part of team training so far, so we will see what he can do today. But he will get closer definitely.”
