Jurgen Klopp's message to Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson revealed - and what it means for title challenge

Jordan Henderson has revealed what Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told him moments before his game-changing cameo at Southampton.

Henderson and James Milner were both introduced shortly before the hour with the Reds being held 1-1 by the relegation-threatened Saints on Friday night.

The Liverpool skipper responded with an assist for Mohamed Salah's pivotal goal on 80 minutes before netting his first strike in almost 18 months to seal the win six minutes later.

And asked what Klopp had said before his introduction, Henderson said: "Make a difference.

"Use our experience and then make a difference. Help the lads, get them going because we were under a bit of pressure.

"I felt as though we did that coming on, but so did everybody else.

"We kept going right until the end and we kept fighting and thankfully we managed to score a couple of goals and win the game."

Liverpool, having played a game more, are once again two points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League table having now taken 82 points from 33 matches.

The late double at Southampton means the Reds have scored 21 goals in the final 15 minutes of Premier League matches this season - more than any other club.

And Henderson, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, said: "The manager has been big on that.

"He was big on that when he first came in a few years ago - that no matter what happens in the game, we still fight right until the very end.

"That is what we have been doing for a long time now and we need to keep that mentality going and not stopping until that final whistle goes.

"To go 3-1 up and kill the game off really was a big moment and a big result for us. That’s the most important thing, but going a goal behind we were really pleased that we managed to keep going and stay in the game.

"It was a must-win (game), we knew that, so it’s a big result for us going forward."
