Jurgen Klopp's message to Alisson after Liverpool keeper's two clangers against Man City

Jurgen Klopp has thrown his weight behind Alisson by insisting the goalkeeper is "world class" and highlighting how many times he has come to Liverpool's aid.

The Brazilian made two dismal mistakes during the Reds' Premier League clash with Manchester City which set the visitors on course for victory at Anfield.

With the score 1-1 heading into the final 17 minutes of the match, Alisson committed the first of two distribution errors which resulted in Ilkay Gundogan restoring City's lead.

Just four minutes later, the former Roma man passed the ball to Bernardo Silva, presenting the forward with a simple opportunity to cross to Raheem Sterling, who netted the Sky Blues' third.

After the match, Klopp stressed Alisson's immense value to his squad - but admitted he would rather the shot-stopper had hoofed upfield than try to play out from the back.

Opening up on his conversation with the 28-year-old, Klopp explained: "I said to Alisson 'we have stands, you can shoot a ball there...'

"In the first half Ali played exceptional football.

"Then in the second half he didn't in the beginning. We all had nights like this. Tomorrow he will be okay again.

"I spoke to him a few seconds ago. He's obviously very disappointed. Tonight it was decisive, but he saved our lives how often? He's a world class goalie."

Mistakes have been few and far between for Alisson since he moved to Merseyside in 2018 and his performance against City was arguably his worst in a Liverpool shirt.

He won the inaugural Yashin Trophy in 2019, awarded by France Football - which also awards the Ballon d'Or - to the best goalkeeper in the world.

Alisson's steadfast performances helped the Reds lift the Champions League that year, while he played a pivotal role in their Premier League triumph last season.
