Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool's spending makes Tottenham comparisons unfair says Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino believes comparisons with Liverpool are unfair after highlighting the money Jurgen Klopp has spent at Anfield.

Klopp 's Reds sit top of the table with just six games to left to play after an incredible campaign that has seen them reach 79 points so far - a club record at this stage of a Premier League season.

Three of those points were picked up on Sunday as the Reds secured a last-gasp win over Spurs at Anfield. Toby Alderweireld's own goal gave Liverpool the victory to wrap up a double for the Reds against Pochettino's men this term.

Spurs' 10th defeat of the season was enough for Arsenal to leapfrog them into third in the division after the Gunners' win against Newcastle on Monday night.

The weekend's results leave the North Londoners' hopes of a top-four finish in peril with Manchester United on the same amount of points in fifth.

Pochettino feels his side shouldn't be talked about alongside Klopp's as he detailed the big money Liverpool have paid to turn the team into one that is fighting to win both the Premier League and Champions League this term.

"I was talking with Daniel Levy after the Liverpool game and sometimes people compare us with Liverpool," he said.

"Virgil Van Dijk was £75million 18 months ago. The keeper (Alisson) was £70m.

Pep Guardiola makes huge Liverpool admission as Premier League title race intensifies

"They had two midfielders on the bench [in Naby Keita and Fabinho] who they spent more than £100m on in the summer.

"The people sometimes say an opinion of Tottenham is like Liverpool. In what?

"Yes, now we are going to be better than Liverpool because we have a better stadium and better training ground.

"But now is another thing to compete as we need to operate maybe similar to them in the future or not. We will see which is the project."
