Jurgen Klopp's huge summer overhaul to see four first-team shirt numbers come available

Four iconic Liverpool shirts could be on offer in the summer during Jurgen Klopp's squad overhaul.

The Reds are expected to be busy at the end of the season as Klopp reshuffles his pack ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, with a number of players out of contract. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Adrian could leave upon the expiry of their deals in June.

Milner, 37, has been heavily linked with a move to Brighton and would reunite with ex-teammate Adam Lallana at the AMEX Stadium. The former England international has won every major honour available at Anfield.

However, Milner's departure would leave the No. 7 shirt free and available for a potential new signing to take. Luis Suarez donned that jersey for the four years he was at the Reds - before Milner's arrival.

Keita, meanwhile, has struggled for fitness so far this season and is set to leave Liverpool, five years since moving from RB Leipzig in 2018. This would see the No. 8 become free. Steven Gerrard was the most recent owner of that shirt before Keita, with the ex-Reds midfielder using it for 11 years.

Firmino's exit will see the No. 9 shirt become available. The Brazilian is expected to join Barcelona at the end of the season, despite Klopp's best efforts to keep him. Firmino has scored 109 goals in 360 games during his time at Liverpool, winning the Champions League, Premier League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the process.

There has been no No. 10 in the Liverpool squad since Sadio Mane joined Bayern Munich last summer. A new attacking midfielder has been lined-up for the Reds in the summer.

As has a number of new central midfielders, with Klopp ready to prioritise that position. The Reds were dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Jude Bellingham on Wednesday afternoon after it was confirmed he was closing in on a move to Real Madrid instead.

Alexis Mac Allister, Kalvin Phillips and Bruno Guimaraes are amongst those to be linked with a switch to Anfield, with the latter being rumoured with a £88million move. Klopp was asked about Liverpool's summer transfer plans before the Reds' 4-3 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

"[The meeting with Henry] was good, he is a good guy," Klopp told Sky Sports. "I find it really funny what the expectations are on a talk like this that I sit there and put my ideas on the table and John says: 'How much is this? How much is that?' It is not like this.

"We have a really good relationship and he is a really good guy who cares a lot about us and we will do business. I don't understand, football is crazy - it was always crazy - but everybody expects 'OK Liverpool is not doing well, so they need five, six or seven players bringing in'.

"I feel a little bit for Chelsea to be honest because it's not going well, I think they’re a top, top team, but on the other side, it's good to see that you cannot just bring top players together and think it works out. You have to build a team and that’s what the guys there underestimated and gave their coaches a nearly impossible job to do.

"You cannot have two dressing rooms, you cannot train on two pitches, you have to create relationships, you have to create team spirit, and that’s the only reason why I’m a little bit happy about it."
