Jurgen Klopp's glowing Ryan Kent verdict should convince Leeds United to seal transfer

The start of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign is now less than three weeks, and for Leeds United time is running out to get their house in order ahead of the big kick-off.

After securing promotion back to the top-flight for the first time since dropping out of the Premier League back in 2004 last month, the Whites, who unveiled their new home strip earlier this week, have wasted little time in bolstering their youth ranks ahead of the new campaign.

Leeds have wrapped up deals for former Ajax goalkeeper Dani van den Heuvel, Cody Drameh of Fulham, Linfield star Charlie Allen and Wigan Athletic striker Joe Gelhardt.

On the first-team front, though, Leeds have been slightly slower out of the blocks, re-signing FC Lorient goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a permanent basis and Manchester City left-midfielder Jack Harrison on loan for the third season in succession.

Though luring both Meslier and Harrison back to Elland Road are solid additions, Leeds are in need of further reinforcements if they are to make the most of their long-awaited return to the Premier League.

And one player that has been closely linked with a move to West Yorkshire over the last few days is Rangers winger Ryan Kent. The Whites made a £10m bid to try and land his signature but it was swiftly knocked back by the Scottish giants.

Kent is not the only winger to have been closely linked with a summer move to Elland Road recently, with Brentford sensation Said Benrahma also believed to be on the club's radar. The Algerian, however, is likely to command a much higher transfer fee than Kent, meaning a move for the former Liverpool winger may be more realistic than a move for Benrahma.

And if Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's past comments about Kent are anything to go by, Leeds should be pulling out all of the stops to lure the 23-year-old, who has spent time on loan at Barnsley in the past, back south of the border.

After spending the 2018/19 season on loan at Ibrox, Kent returned to Anfield last summer for the Reds' pre-season preparations ahead of the 2019/20 season and he made a big impression on Klopp during a pre-season friendly against Spanish side Sevilla, despite being beaten 2-1.

“Ryan had sensational moments in the Sevilla game – one-on-one situations are his big strength," Klopp told Liverpool TV last summer.

"He is a wonderful kid, a wonderful player.

"Very good moments in pre-season, but it is for all the boys always a big challenge as well to show up.

"They probably feel under pressure, which they shouldn’t but it is natural that it happens.

“I am happy about that, absolutely."

Though Klopp thought so highly of Kent, he sealed a permanent move to Rangers less than two months later, joining the Gers on a four-year contract.

Last term, the winger scored eight goals and registered four assists in 34 appearances in all competitions. Kent has also started the 2020/21 season in red-hot form, scoring three goals in the opening five Scottish Premiership matches of the campaign, including one goal in Rangers' 2-0 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday.
