Jurgen Klopp's beautiful Liverpool sentiment after 96 points preceded Premier League trophy lift

Liverpool poignantly lifted the Premier League trophy after 30 years of waiting having achieved 96 points in the top flight.

The Reds were officially crowned champions on Wednesday night after beating Chelsea 5-3 at Anfield, having then amassed the incredible 96-point total after 37 games.

The number 96 is, of course, a hugely significant one to the Anfield faithful as it signifies the memory of 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives as victims of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.

Manager Jurgen Klopp opened up in his final pre-match press conference of the season on Friday about how special it was to know his side lifted the trophy on that number of points.

"I didn't realise it right away. I saw interviews from the boys to see how they felt and to catch up," Klopp said.

"Trent [Alexander-Arnold] saw the 96 points and in that moment I felt it so massively that things came together for this moment.

"I said it on the night that we did it for our supporters and it cannot be a coincidence that we have 96 points on the night we get the trophy.

"I hope all the families felt it exactly the same way. It made it really special one more time. Absolutely great.

"For me, it was a great night that our families were there and it made it really special too.

"They were waiting for our moment and seeing our loved ones there was a special moment for all of us.

"It all made it extraordinary and I'm really happy we could have it like this."
