Jurgen Klopp's appreciative gesture to Adam Lallana after Liverpool's win over Everton

Jurgen Klopp was suitably impressed with Adam Lallana's display for Liverpool - so much so that he literally took his cap off to him.

The Reds boss often dons a baseball cap on the sidelines and removed it once he'd tracked down the midfielder after the game.

Klopp hailed Lallana's "unbelievable" performance post match as Curtis Jones' wonder strike in the Merseyside derby.

The 1-0 win came despite a host of youngsters being named in the starting XI, but the German manager was full of praise for some of his established stars.

"They played brave football. Unbelievable individual performances from the kids and the adults as well," said Klopp.

"Adam Lallana – what a game, unbelievable. Joe Gomez – organising the whole defence for maybe the first time in his life.

"Sensational game and a sensational goal from a Scouser – who could ask for more? You cannot perform like the boys performed if you think you should not perform in that team.

"They all think like that. I am so happy they all showed up tonight. The only thing I didn’t want was a draw. We had to take some risks and it paid off."

The biggest risk to pay off was including 18-year-old Jones in the starting XI with the defender admitting to some "frustration" at the lack of opportunities afforded to him.

Liverpool's regular fullbacks, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, are two of the side's stalwarts, but Jones hopes his match-winning display with give Klopp food for thought.

He said: "I just go with it and try and play my game. I’ve had a bit of a frustrating time to be on the bench and there’s times when in my head I’m begging to come on.

"Then I just try and show what I’m capable of doing. ‘Hopefully I’ve topped that off with a good performance and a great goal."
