Jurgen Klopp reveals what Liverpool medical team said about Roberto Firmino

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Liverpool's medical team gave Roberto Firmino the thumbs up ahead of the Barcelona clash.

But the Reds boss is taking no chances ahead of his side's Champions League semi-final tie and has named the Brazilian striker on the bench.

Speaking ahead of the first leg, Klopp said: "Bobby wants to [play] and the medical department told me 'yes, it's good' but then you have to make sure – I'm not sure if 90 minutes or whatever.

"So he doesn't have to start, that's why we start like we start. Bobby is on the bench, that's good news."

Firmino missed Liverpool's 5-0 demolition job of Huddersfield in the Premier League last time out.

Klopp revealed that the Brazilian had suffered a muscle tear but Firmino returned to training at Melwood before the team flew out to Spain.

Klopp has also named Trent Alexander-Arnold on the bench this Wednesday.

The Reds boss added: "For Trent it's good, he can refresh a little bit, there are important games to come.

"But the first thing we wanted to make was a good line-up for tonight and for a good line-up you need legs and that's what we tried to make sure."
