Jurgen Klopp reveals the standout Liverpool moment from Champions League triumph

Jurgen Klopp has revealed the standout moment that he remembers most from Liverpool ’s Champions League final win over Tottenham last season.

The Reds secured their sixth European Cup triumph in Madrid last June with a 2-0 victory over Spurs at the Wanda Metropolitano, the home of Atletico Madrid.

It was the first major trophy Liverpool had won in Klopp’s tenure, before going on to secure the Super Cup and Club World Cup in the months that followed.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in Madrid from the penalty spot, before substitute Divock Origi made the victory absolute secure with a goal in the closing moments.

And it was Origi’s strike, after latching onto a slick Joel Matip pass, that Klopp admits he remembers most from that historic match.

“The wonderful Divock Origi goal,” Klopp told BT Sport, when asked for the one memory that stands out a year on.

He added: “It was not our best game, it was not the best game of Tottenham.

“It was a final, we had to learn that as a team that we needed to win these kind of average games.

“We needed to accept that if we do not perform at our best, then we need to do other things to win.

“When Divock scored the goal, I knew on the night that it was enough so we would win. That was my biggest memory.

“It was job done, and I really loved it.”
