Jurgen Klopp reveals the biggest rivalry within Liverpool squad

Given Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp boasts one of the strongest squads in European football, you’d expect there to be plenty of intra-team rivalries.

The Reds are fighting for domestic and European glory this season, with the current focus on their upcoming Champions League encounter with Porto on Wednesday night.

Klopp’s men are aiming to dump the Portuguese giants out of the Champions League for a second year running, and go into the second leg of their quarter-final at the Estadio do Dragao leading 2-0 from last week's first leg at Anfield.

And ahead of the match, the German spoke about squad battles including full-backs Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and forwards Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool reveal Anfield changes to be made at end of season

“It is nice to have these stories but it’s normal in a successful team,” he said on Tuesday ahead of the clash with Porto.

“The boys like each other a lot. I don’t think Sadio (Mane) and Mo (Salah) really have a competition, just to score as many as possible.

“It’s probably a bit different with Robbo (Robertson) and Trent (Alexander-Arnold). They won’t have expected it.

“So far it’s been a very positive season but we’re not here to celebrate that. The season is not finished, we have to fight really hard and are here to get to the next round.

Liverpool not best team in the world yet, James Milner tells fan-boy Porto boss

Porto boss Sergio Conceicao paid the Reds just about the ultimate compliment in the build-up to the match, saying this season they have often played like "the best team in the world", but Klopp took it with a pinch of salt.

"Sometimes we are really good, it's true," Klopp added. "Hopefully we can show it again.

"It's probably meant as a compliment but we still know we have a really tough job to do tomorrow and probably he said as well he believes in their chances too. Did he say that? Yes, then it's all good."
