Jurgen Klopp reveals reaction to Man City defeat and makes predictable title comment

Jurgen Klopp has explained how "nothing has changed" as far as he is concerned when it comes to the title race, despite Manchester City's recent home defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.

Pep Guardiola's troops equalised twice only to see a 95th minute stoppage time winner from Harry Kane ensure that Spurs have done the double over City this season.

In the process, Antonio Conte's men may have offered Liverpool a small window of opportunity when it comes to making ground on league leaders City.

Many had written off this season's title race as a foregone conclusion after Guardiola's side enjoyed a 12-point lead earlier this month, though that deficit has since been reduced to just six.

On top of that, Liverpool boast a game in hand over their title rivals as well as a meeting with them still to come later on this term.

The Reds boss was speaking to the media ahead of Wednesday night's Premier league clash at home to Leeds United when he admitted he was expecting the questions to be about their next game rather than City.

"I know you don't ask about the next opponent but I am still naive enough to expect [questions] about the next opponent," Klopp confessed.

"One minute after Norwich game, it's over and we think about Leeds and so much can happen in football. It's six points and we play Leeds."

Klopp is opting for the same approach most would in his position and insists on simply taking things one game at a time.

The German will certainly not let his players or his staff get ahead of themselves in the wake of this opportunity, even if the Anfield faithful dare to dream of a second title in three seasons.

As expected, City's defeat and what it might mean for Klopp's men dominated the pre-match discourse.

However, the Liverpool manager revealed he hadn't even realised City had suffered a rare home loss until he was informed by his driver.

"The truth, I was on my way home at 2-1 Spurs then I arrived at home and didn't follow it," he recalled.

"I was sure City would equalise. We went out and the driver was very excited, 2-2 then 3-2, he told me Spurs had won.

"'Oh!' was my reaction. Nothing has changed, really. We need to win."

City are not in action again until Saturday evening when they make the trip to Goodison Park looking to bounce back in emphatic fashion against Frank Lampard's Toffees.

Liverpool can really start to apply the pressure to City with a victory over Leeds on Wednesday night.
