Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool did hold talks with agents over transfers this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the club held talks with agents about brining one or two players in this summer.

The Reds appeared to opt against spending big this year, with only youngsters Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg arriving at Anfield.

It was a far cry from last summer, when the Reds splashed out to secure the services of Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.

But Klopp has now opened up on how the club did look at brining players in, but nothing came of the talks held with their representatives.

"We always try to bring in players and we talk to agents and in the end it does not happen," the German told Sky Sports.

"We were looking for one or two things but it didn't pan out.

"If we don't find the right one, don't do it.

"We have to prove that we are ready."

Klopp was unable to include Sadio Mane in his side's starting line-up against the Canaries after the forward only returned to the club on Monday following his inclusion in Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations squad, and the German has called for questions to be asked about the scheduling of the competition.

"I could be the best manager in the world but the players are not fit. Other people have to change the schedule.

"FIFA and UEFA don't talk to each other. The problem is the tournament."
