Jurgen Klopp reveals his plans for when Liverpool contract expires

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he plans on taking a year out of football when his Liverpool contract ends in 2024.

And the German could even call time on his managerial career if he does not miss the sport during his sabbatical.

Klopp’s last planned 12-month break came to a premature end as he made the move to Anfield in October 2015, just six months after leaving Borussia Dortmund.

But the 53-year-old is keen to take time out when his Reds contract, which was extended last December, comes to an end.

“I'll take a year off and ask myself if I miss football. If I say no, then that will be the end of coach Jurgen Klopp,” he told Sports Buzzer.

“If one day I am no longer a coach, there is one thing I will not miss: the brutal tension immediately before the game.”

Preparations for Klopp’s fifth full season in charge of Liverpool got under way at a training camp in Austria last weekend.

And, having won four trophies over the course of the last two seasons, the Reds boss is still determined to make further improvements.

“The whole club is hot for the new season, we want to be even better,” he added.

“We want to chase the opponents and the ball over the entire field, continue to be a super unpleasant team that is not fun to play.

“We're not defending any titles, we want to get new ones, we've only just started winning.”
