Alisson was "close to tears" after keeping a clean sheet in Liverpool's win over Fulham, according to Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds kept their slim chances of Champions League football alive by seeing off the Cottagers, the side who had held them to a draw on the opening day. Mohamed Salah proved to be the match winner from the spot as he closes on the 30-goal mark for the season.
Alisson's shut out though had the Brazilian feeling particularly emotional. Liverpool's defence has not been as solid as it once was, emphasised by the fact their No 1 has conceded three in a game on seven occasions this season. That made his clean sheet all the more valuable, bringing out a rare reaction.
Klopp told Premier League Productions: “Alisson was close to crying with a clean sheet. It’s pretty rare for us this season. It’s very nice, especially for him.”
Despite the German's comments comments, Alisson has actually kept 12 clean sheets this term - the third most in the league and only bettered by David de Gea and Nick Pope,whilst he's gathered more than his international colleague Ederson, who has 10 with Manchester City.
The Brazilian said on his and the team's efforts: "Really happy to keep the clean sheet. Tonight it was massive to keep the three points as well. It was a really tough game against a really good side. They are not getting the results in the last matches but they are playing really well, they are a proper threat to the opponent and tonight they showed that.
"For us, we worked together as a team, we worked really good on the ball, defensively as well really good. We gave away a few opportunities to them but that’s football, there’s the quality of the opponent as well. I’m happy for tonight for the three points and the clean sheet.
Earlier in the season Fulham hit two past the Reds in a 2-2 draw in August and Klopp was full of praise for how they performed this time. “Super strong opponent, I can’t respect any more what Marco [Silva] is doing there," he said. "I saw big fight, really good spirit and the boys who came on were flying into the challenges. Of course we can control the game in these moments better but we can improve. We have played much worse in the past.”
The win leaves Liverpool comfortably in fifth, but they trail Manchester United in fourth by four points despite playing two more games. Their next assignment is a game against Brentford, who have already got the better of them this season in west London.
