Jurgen Klopp responds to Harrison Reed claim after Liverpool defeat vs Fulham

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed suggestions Liverpool lacked desire as they slumped against Fulham.

Visiting midfielder Harrison Reed claimed “we wanted it more” when quizzed about the relegation-threatened Cottagers’ 1-0 win at Anfield on Sunday.

But Klopp doesn’t believe hunger was an issue for his faltering side.

“The winner is always right,” he said. “But I don’t see that problem (about desire).

“I don’t know how much Fulham wanted it, but it’s normal. I was a player myself, and when you win in a situation like Fulham is in, you say these kind of things.

“My boys want to win football games. I know that. The boys want it but we couldn’t do it, that’s the problem.”

Liverpool had 16 shots on goal and forced nine corners with substitute Sadio Mane coming nearest with a header that hit the post.

And Klopp added: “The boys want to win games and they wanted to win this one. I saw that.

“We still made mistakes, that’s the problem. The boys don’t want to make mistakes. But we have to make sure that the mistakes we make are not that accountable any more.

“You can concede a goal – we conceded goals in the best periods of our lives, the only thing is we weren’t bothered about it. That’s where we have to be (again).

“Believe me, these boys want it. It doesn’t work at the moment, there are some reason for it and we don’t score goals and we concede at least one, which at the moment looks like enough against us.”
