Jurgen Klopp responds to claims Coronavirus could see Liverpool miss out on title

Jurgen Klopp has laughed off claims Liverpool could miss out on winning a first Premier League title due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The Reds were reportedly given 'no guarantees' that they would lift the trophy at the end of the campaign if the virus curtailed the competition mid-season.

But Klopp has played this down as a concern, telling the press: "Liverpool fans are not silly enough to believe these things."

English football has not yet to been affected by Coronavirus, but Newcastle have taken steps to fight the threat by instructing players to avoid shaking hands with each other in training.

Meanwhile, Euro 2020 is set to be held in a host of cities across the continent this summer and UEFA have admitted they are in limbo as to whether it will affect the competition.

Liverpool suffered a first Premier League defeat against Watford last time out, with the Hornets battering the Reds 3-0 at Vicarage Road.

Klopp said: "We went 44 games in the Premier League without defeat. It is just incredible. Incredible.

"The game we lost before that was at Man City, and we lost because of 11mm. Imagine if we hadn't lost that - it would be 60-odd matches. Incredible."

On the task ahead against Chelsea, he added: "I like the project a lot.

"Maybe because of the transfer ban it wasn't really planned but having a sensational number of young players is really nice.

"The way they go looks really promising and Frank [Lampard] is doing an incredible job"
