Jurgen Klopp responds to Bayern Munich legend's calls to quit Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed Franz Beckenbauer's calls to quit Liverpool for Bayern Munich.

Beckenbauer admitted he hoped Klopp would return to Germany after guiding Liverpool to Champions League glory.

“I wish for nothing more than that one day he will come to Bayern," Beckenbauer said.

"For me he is one of the world's best coaches. What he started in Dortmund, he has refined with Liverpool."

But Klopp, who is contracted to Liverpool until 2022, has no plans to return to the Bundesliga any time soon.

Klopp told Bild: "I like Franz — and he likes me. But I have a long-term contract at Liverpool.

"I would rather he said that than him saying and thinking that I cannot be Bayern manager.

"However, both Bayern and Borussia Dortmund have very good coaches. And what could be in five years or more, I do not know.

"Maybe there will be completely different coaches that qualify."

Liverpool have opened talks with Klopp over a new deal following an excellent campaign at Anfield.

The Reds only missed out on the Premier League by a point before their Champions League success.

He still has three years left on his current deal, and said recently there is no rush to extend.

But principal owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and director Michael Gordon see the 51-year-old as the best in world football at the moment, and they want him to stay long term and create another dynasty at the club.

Talks are ongoing, and there is confidence he wants to commit his future to Liverpool and a still young squad with vast potential.
