Jurgen Klopp responds after James Milner - Mohamed Salah penalty dispute

Jurgen Klopp has hailed the ability of James Milner from the penalty spot, after there appeared to be a dispute between the Liverpool midfielder and Mohamed Salah over who took the late spot-kick at Cardiff .

Milner converted from 12 yards just moments he'd come on for Fabinho late on in south Wales, with the Brazilian having himself only just come on moments earlier before sustaining a head injury.

It was Milner's fifth successful penalty kick of the season, and a second crucial one in the title race run-in following his winning goal at Fulham last month.

But it looked as though Salah - who has scored twice from the spot in 2018/19 - had wanted to take the kick himself.

However although not addressing the issue directly, Klopp hailed Milner's ability to stay cool under pressure.

“He’s like a machine in these moments," he said.

“He trains them and he is not the only one. Mo is getting better and better and better.

“Milly is experienced. He has had important penalty shoot-outs in his life. He know it’s all about how you keep your body in the right position and the right technique and then done.

“He has also missed a penalty in a pretty important game if I’m right but he’s like a machine. He switches off all emotions and puts the ball in the net.

“That’s the way to do it.”
