Jurgen Klopp refuses to answer question on World Cup pundit’s comments about Ivory Coast

  • Jürgen Klopp, working as a World Cup pundit, abruptly concluded an interview in New York after being questioned about controversial remarks made by fellow German pundit Bastian Schweinsteiger.
  • Schweinsteiger had described the Ivory Coast team's style as “a bit African football, a bit unorthodox, a bit wild, a bit perhaps also not so conditioned by tactics” during a German broadcast before Germany’s game against Ivory Coast last weekend.
  • Klopp appeared visibly uncomfortable when asked about these comments, stating he had “no chance” to answer the “serious subject” appropriately and felt he was being put in a difficult situation.
  • The German coach expressed relief at having avoided the topic until then, concluding with an ironic jab at the German interviewer before departing.
  • Germany secured their place in the World Cup knockout stages by defeating Ivory Coast 2-1, coming from behind with two goals from Denis Undav.
