Jurgen Klopp "really misses" Georginio Wijnaldum as Liverpool put on transfer alert

Jurgen Klopp "really misses" Georginio Wijnaldum's presence in the Liverpool dressing room as he looks set to leave Paris Sint-Germain this summer.

The midfielder is one of nine players up for sale in the upcoming window as PSG plan to clear the decks following their embarrassing Champions League collapse against Real Madrid.

Wijnaldum has barely featured for Mauricio Pochettino's men this season and has not been able to replicate the form he showed on a consistent basis at Anfield.

The Dutch international and the French giants acknowledge the move was a 'mistake' as they both look to cut their losses in the summer according to L'Equipe, via Sport Witness.

It's claimed that Wijnaldum ‘still has market value’ in England and should be able to find a new club back in the Premier League which would naturally put Liverpool on alert.

Watching the 31-year-old leave Merseyside as a free agent was a bitter pill to swallow for the Reds given their success together.

Liverpool have been able to move on without him, however, as they compete on all four fronts towards the business end of the season, but it took some time to adjust without Wijnaldum on and off the field.

Jurgen Klopp revealed back in October that the squad were "really missing" the midfielder.

The German said: “Even when we prepare for an opponent like Chelsea, we look at our games against Chelsea and see Gini running around there.

"We still have to get used to that. It is not only on the pitch we miss him but we really, really miss him in the dressing room as well.”

Wijnaldum said in October that he was "not completely happy" at PSG as he struggled for playing time, something that has not improved over the course of the season.

He told Dutch news outlet NOS: "I can't say I'm completely happy, because the situation is not what I wanted.

"But that's football and I'll have to learn to deal with that. I'm a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around.

"I have played a lot in recent years, was always fit and also did very well. This is something different and that takes getting used to.

"I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult."

Wijnaldum also revealed that he would love to return to Liverpool one day as a fan which suggests he would be open to a Merseyside reunion.

“If it’s possible, I would love to come back,” he said before his final game for the club. “The feeling I have, the feeling my family has with this club, is only good things.

“I hope that it would be possible that I come back to watch a game and support Liverpool because I will be a Liverpool supporter for life.”

Wijnaldum is now in the same boat that Philippe Coutinho once found himself in as he realised the hard way that the grass isn't always greener away from Merseyside.

Klopp always played down the prospect of reuniting with the Brazilian and rightly so because Liverpool have evolved since his departure.

The Reds are also coping just fine without Wijnaldum but it's his influence in the changing room, that the German alluded, which suggests he would be welcomed back with open arms.
