Jurgen Klopp reacts to claims he's been told to make Premier League title sacrifice

Jurgen Klopp has backed Liverpool's "really generous" owners Fenway Sports Group and says that both he and they are on the same page when it comes to delivering success for the Reds in all competitions.

There were claims over the weekend that Klopp had been told that he was free to sacrifice progress in the domestic cups in order to prioritise Liverpool's hunt to end their long wait for top-flight title success, as well as defending their Champions League crown this season.

But speaking ahead of the UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea in Istanbul, the Reds boss has dismissed those suggestions.

“Who could have told you that?" he asked BT Sport, via the Liverpool Echo .

"That’s not true, it’s one of the many stories where there’s absolutely nothing and not even a little bit of truth."

Klopp went on to explain how he and FSG work together in order to develop Liverpool's squads.

“They create a basis, what they give us we have to use, it’s as simple as that," he said.

"They are big believers in development and don’t believe you can invest and get it immediately.

“I am that person myself, I’ve never had a different situation so maybe I don’t know how to act if somebody throws money at me and says ‘now you can buy whoever you want’.

“We are completely on one page, it’s a great relationship. It’s good, everything is good, we were in a good moment last year and hopefully we can be a good moment as well this year.

“We have to use what our owners give us, they are really generous and they don’t lead the club for money, they lead it because they enjoy it.”
