Vincent Kompany foul on Mo Salah: Jurgen Klopp says challenge 'could have ended Liverpool forward's season'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp condemned the decision not to send off Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany for his challenge on Mohamed Salah.

Kompany left the ground in his attempt to tackle Salah in the first half of Thursday’s thriller at the Etihad Stadium. The centre-half was shown a yellow card when a red could have easily emerged from referee Anthony Taylor’s pocket.

Klopp was bewildered by the decision, feeling Kompany’s challenge could have caused his star man a season-ending injury.

He told Sky Sports: "I really like Vincent Kompany, but how on earth was it not a red card?

"He's the last man and if he hits Mo (Salah) more, he's out for the season. He knows Mo is that quick that if he gets the ball, he's through so he takes the risk. I don't know if the referee saw it.

"It was a very intense game for both teams and we were unlucky with our finishing.

"We could've drawn, we could've won it. We lost, but it's not the biggest problem."

Leroy Sane’s strike sealed a 2-1 win for City on the night, moving the champions back to within four points of league leaders Liverpool.
