Jurgen Klopp provides update on Diogo Jota admitting injury is "worse than we thought"

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Diogo Jota is expected to be sidelined for up to two months with a knee injury which the Liverpool boss says is "worse than we thought".

Jota missed training on Friday evening and was subsequently ruled out of the clash against Fulham.

Liverpool held out initial hopes the Portuguese forward would be fit to return for the crunch top of the table showdown with Tottenham in midweek.

The club's medical team waited until the swelling had reduced before making a full analysis, but Jota has now been ruled out until the new year.

Speaking before Liverpool's fixture against Fulham on Sunday, Klopp told Sky Sports: "It’s worse than we first thought but better than we then thought.

"The potential surgeons had a look but no surgery necessary.

"He will be out for a while, one-and-a-half to two months, we don’t know exactly."

The Reds's boss then confirmed Jota was not the only player who has been added to the injury list.

"It’s pretty similar with Kostas Tsimikas," he added. "Unbelievable."

Jota's absence is another big loss for Liverpool following the scintillating start he has made to his Reds career.

It comes at a bad time for Klopp, too, with Tottenham visiting Anfield on Wednesday, before a hectic Christmas schedule.

Liverpool have been boosted by the return of two other key men, however, as both Alisson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were included in the squad against Fulham.

Goalkeeper Alisson has missed Liverpool's last three matches, with youngster Caoimhin Kelleher deputising well in his place, but was reinstalled between the sticks at Craven Cottage.

Oxlade-Chamberlain meanwhile has not featured for Liverpool so far in this campaign, after suffering injury in pre-season.

The midfielder - who has had rotten luck with injuries during his time at Liverpool - was named among the substitutes.
