Jurgen Klopp provides Liverpool injury update on Mane and Henderson ahead of Arsenal clash

Arsenal take on Liverpool on Saturday evening in what promises to be a tough test for Mikel Arteta's side.

The Gunners were in impressive form prior to the international break and are undefeated in their last 10 domestic fixtures, winning eight of those games.

A solid run of games means that Arteta's team are just two points behind the Reds going into the game.

Nevertheless, their league form at Anfield has been extremely disappointing in recent seasons, and they'll need to be at their very best to come away with a point or three.

That being said, the Gunners have been boosted by the fact that several Liverpool players are out with injury this weekend and two of their more senior players (Andy Robertson and Jordan Henderson) are doubtful, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

"Robbo [Robertson] was lucky, we can probably say. It was a little bit DOMS [delayed onset muscle soreness], the intensity of all the games he played probably, rather than anything else," Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com on Thursday.

"He was smart enough to [make] the right decision, he went off early, which he usually is not doing. But in this case it was absolutely right, and so there’s a good chance that he can be involved at the weekend.

"Hendo [Henderson], a little bit more [injured] than Robbo but a chance for the weekend. So we are working on that. It’s not a serious injury but in this short period of time we have to see if he is ready for Saturday. But after that, 100%, and possibly for Arsenal as well."

Frontman Sadio Mane is available, however, and could feature from the start against the Gunners.

"Sadio [Mane] is fine – painful but fine. Everybody who had a rib bruise knows it’s an annoying thing. But Sad trained here with us now in all sessions.

"We took him out a little bit earlier here and there when we knew now it will be full contact, stuff like this, just to give it a bit more time to settle. But he looks fine."

But the weekend comes too soon for Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez, Naby Keita and James Milner. The four were sidelined before the international break and will miss Saturday's teatime kick-off.

Curtis Jones is also set to be sidelined for several more weeks after suffering from an unfortunate eye injury.

“I thought I saw all injuries as a manager, but that was really a freak one," Klopp added.

"He was very lucky – very lucky – in the end because we all know with the eye there’s no jokes about that, let me say it like this.

"He is good, he is just not allowed to do a lot of things in the moment, we have to wait until the doctors give us a green light. Curtis is completely fine, he has his eyesight back, all these kinds of things, but the eye is still recovering."

Arsenal haven't won at Anfield in the league since September 2012 - a game Arteta in fact played in - but given the Reds' injury struggles, this may be their best chance to change that poor form.
