Jurgen Klopp provides Jordan Henderson injury update ahead of Aston Villa clash

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is injury free and in line for a Premier League return this weekend.

Henderson has missed Liverpool's last two fixtures after picking up a thigh injury in the win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

That kept him out of the two clashes vs Arsenal at Anfield, as Liverpool continued their 100 per cent start to their Premier League defence.

Their perfect domestic record was ended by the Gunners on Thursday night however, with Mikel Arteta’s men overcoming them on penalties.

But it’s all eyes back on their push to retain the title, as they face Aston Villa on Sunday.

Thiago Alcantara will miss the fixture after contracting coronavirus, but his midfield colleague could be set to return .

"He will be part of parts of training today,” Klopp confirmed.

"He has absolutely no muscle issues, he's not injured any more. Now we have to make sure he can make the next step. What that means for the weekend, I don't know.

"I was in close contact with Gareth Southgate and it is clear that he will use the time with national team for getting match fit."

Whether he plays against Villa or not, Klopp has confirmed he will joined the England squad, as he continues to build up his match fitness.

"Hendo had four or five days normal pre-season before he played his first game for us because of the situation we were in,” Klopp explained.

"He played against Chelsea and got this little injury, which was not serious, but he has been working on his physical things already for a few days but now (it will be) more football specific with us and then the national team.

"He will have minutes for England, which is then a proper win-win situation which I'm really happy about."
