Jurgen Klopp provides Jordan Henderson fitness update ahead of Liverpool vs Atletico

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Jordan Henderson is "ready" to face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday but would not confirm whether the Liverpool captain would be involved.

Henderson has been recovering from a hamstring injury picked up in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie between the sides three weeks ago.

The 29-year-old has not played a minute of action since hobbling out of the clash at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, but is back in full first-team training.

Henderson was always hopeful of making the squad for the return fixture, and Klopp has admitted the star is in contention.

Klopp told reporters on Tuesday: "Hendo is ready but if we do that [play him], I don’t know… or maybe I know and I don’t say!”

Liverpool have looked a different side without the presence of their skipper in recent weeks, and it would be a surprise for Henderson to play no part in what is now their biggest fixture of the campaign to date.

The Reds have been boosted by Andy Robertson's return after the left-back missed the weekend win over Bournemouth as a precaution.

Goalkeeper Alisson will not play any part in the match though, after suffering a hip injury in training last week.

Adrian deputised between the sticks on Saturday and is in line to do so again against Atleti.

Liverpool must overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, and Klopp has urged his stars to play with confidence if they are to book their passage to the quarter-finals.

"If you prepare situations where it is not easy to defend is easier to score. I have the highest respect for them but there are ways and we have to find them tomorrow night," he added.

"We cannot be scared to go out. If we are afraid we cannot play with freedom.

There will be opportunities for us and we have to make sure we take them."
