Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on key Liverpool duo ahead of Leeds United clash

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted his club will 'do everything' to ensure Robert Firmino and Diogo Jota are fit for the Carabao Cup final, casting doubts over whether the duo will feature against Leeds United.

It could be argued the focus on Liverpool's cup final clash with Chelsea suggests the duo will not be available for the visit of Leeds, who are scheduled to take on the Reds at 7:45pm on Wednesday.

Their absences would be music to the ears of Leeds supporters, as the in-form hosts would be deprived of two of their most potent attacking threats.

Both players picked up injuries last Wednesday when Liverpool clinched a 2-0 victory away at Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Jota suffered an injury to his ankle whilst Firmino, who replaced him at half-time, managed to play for the duration of the second-half but flagged a muscle issue after the final whistle.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com about the duo's availability, Klopp said: "Yes, it’s too early.

"I don’t even know if it will be a late decision or not; how I said, it’s too early. I saw them both today, they both look great – but those two always look great.

"We have to see how the specific issues develop but we obviously will try everything."

Leeds are no strangers to injury problems themselves and will be without defender Robin Koch for the trip to Merseyside after the Germany international suffered a blow to the head in the defeat to Manchester United.

It would also be a surprise to see places in the squad given to Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford or Sam Greenwood, all of whom were absent for Leeds against their bitter rivals from across the Pennines.

Although Klopp would have Firmino and Jota available for Wednesday in an ideal world, his plethora of attacking options will ease the blow if they are sidelined.

New addition Luis Diaz notched his first Premier League goal at the weekend against Norwich City and lined up alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in a front three capable of troubling any defence.
