Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is hopeful Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip will both be fit to face Leeds United.
The Whites head to Anfield on September 12 to make their Premier League return against the reigning champions.
Liverpool stepped up their preparations for the new campaign with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield.
Klopp named a strong XI that drew 1-1 with the Gunners in normal time, with only Trent Alexander-Arnold and Henderson missing from their strongest XI.
Asked about the possibility of his captain being available against Leeds, Klopp told liverpoolfc.com: “For that, we have to see when he trains.
“I think Joel and Hendo will be in parts of team training next week and we will see.
"Of course, the longer they have the better the chance is, but I don’t know in this moment.”
Alexander-Arnold is also expected to step up training next week after playing no part in any of Liverpool's first three pre-season matches.
The right-back was called into the England squad for their upcoming Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark on September 5 and 8, although Henderson was not selected as he continues his recovery.
New Leeds signings Robin Koch and Rodrigo Moreno could both make their debuts at Anfield after they signed at Elland Road on Saturday.
