Jurgen Klopp predicts how Man City's Champions League exit will impact title race

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists Manchester City will not have a Champions League hangover following their deflating defeat to Real Madrid.

The title challengers booked their place in the showpiece match in Paris prior to the late fight-back from Carlo Ancelotti's side which ended hopes of successive finals for the Blues. For Pep Guardiola, the focus now diverts solely onto the title race with their Merseyside counterparts.

However, the German tactician is under no illusions that the exit will not have a negative impact on City as they return to action on Sunday to face Newcastle. Liverpool host Champions League hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur knowing a win would see them move two points clear at the top ahead of the Magpies' visit to the Etihad.

After being asked whether he thought Wednesday's result would negatively affect City's title bid, Klopp said in his press conference. "I think they are too good.

"Yes, it was a massive blow, think everybody was ready to turn the television off nearly and then all of a sudden part two started that was really harsh. The night, I had nights like this, it's not cool.

"The next morning it's not enjoyable but then we realised 'we cannot change that anymore but now we have to focus on that and that's Newcastle on Sunday' and they will be ready. With all respect, it was strange and unlucky for City but what Madrid did was outstanding," he added.
