Jurgen Klopp praises 'unbelievable' Adrian after response to Caoimhin Kelleher's Liverpool start

Jurgen Klopp confirmed Caoimhin Kelleher will start in goal for Liverpool against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday providing the 22-year-old remains fit.

Klopp chose Kelleher to make his Champions League debut ahead of regular deputy Adrian for the win over Ajax on Tuesday as the Republic of Ireland youth international claimed a clean sheet.

With Alisson Becker expected to miss the visit of Wolves, Klopp admitted the shot-stopper is in line for a Premier League bow.

"There are not a lot of reasons I could mention in this moment to say he won't start against Wolves," the Liverpool manager said of Kelleher. "But there is training in between, he has to stay fit, we have sessions, all this kind of stuff.

"But he has done enough to convince me. He did that some years ago but sometimes you have to wait for the right moment and the right moment came on Tuesday.

"But he has done enough to convince me but he has already did that some years ago."

Klopp also praised the reaction of experienced back-up Adrian and said the Spaniard 'doesn't deserve' to be written off because of the emergence of Kelleher.

"In life we have to prove things. That is unfortunately like this," Klopp said.

"Caoimh is an exceptionally talented goalie. But for goalies it's really difficult because they have to wait. You can be exceptional and have to wait for a chance because there is only one goalie on the pitch.

"If one goalie plays for 10 years in a row it can be pretty difficult. You can be stood as the number two goalie and no-one can see [how good you are].

"Now he has got his chance and he has convinced everybody. He didn't have to convince us, obviously we thought it would be like this, but he convinced everyone and that is good.

"But Adrian doesn't deserve to just write him off now. There is no reason for that.

"He is important to Caoimh in an exceptional way. After he got the information he would not start he was unbelievable and I have a lot of respect for that. I expected it, actually, but I have a lot of respect for it."
