Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool's desire as he reacts to late win over Tottenham

Jurgen Klopp insisted it isn’t luck that has put Liverpool back on top – but the desire of champions.

And the Reds boss claimed that in the end, the title will be decided by which team has the stronger will to win.

The Anfield side showed their character with an incredible 90th minute winner against Spurs which kept their dreams alive, despite a poor second half when it looked like they’d blown the Premier League.

And the manager said: “The boys work so hard and if we would be first in the table after the last match of the season, it would be a championship of will. We want it.

“We are top of the table. We cannot be there through luck. If we are there at the end of the season it will be down to will, desire and attitude.

Hugo Lloris hands Liverpool another goalkeeping gift in Premier League title tussle

“We compete with Man City, tell me two better teams at the moment, and we compete with them. We needed luck this time - apologies - but we still take it.

“Momentum is not a coincidence, it is something you take, you keep and you use. That helped today obviously.”

Mo Salah proved the home hero when his header forced a farcical comedy of errors, first from Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris, culminating in an own goal from Toby Alderweireld.

Salah tried to claim the goal afterwards, insisting “the crowd want me to have it!” but it was deemed an own goal by the Premier League.

The Egyptian though, insisted that the goal was the important thing, no matter where it came from. “If they don’t give it to me I don’t care, we have won.

“I think the fans gave it to me, so I wait for the Premier League now.

Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham: Five talking points as lady luck shines on Reds title bid

“I wasn’t taking too much risk (and didn’t) head it too hard so the ball didn’t go high – I just wanted to keep it in the goal and put it in there.

“(I take anything), give me the goal, just give me the assist – I’m happy.”

And Salah took a sideswipe at those who claim he is having a poor season, when he added with a smile: “I don’t score for a few games and there are players on the same number of goals as me and they say they are having the best seasons of their lives, while I’m supposed to be having a bad season!

“Aguero? Two goals more than me and they are saying it’s the best season he’s ever had. But it is just about getting the win.”

Klopp has a big concern with Virgil van Dijk clutching an ice pack to his ankle afterwards, but the manager said: “I asked him – he says its just a knock.

"He was walking with a big ice pack, I hope it was nothing serious, we will have to see.”
