Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool players for going "beyond their limits" in Champions League

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to his players for "going beyond their limits" in order to reach the final of the Champions League.

The Reds are hoping to be crowned European champions for the sixth time in the club's history when they face English rivals Tottenham in Madrid on June 1.

Klopp's side beat Spanish champions Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield in the semi-finals - overturning a three-goal first-leg deficit - to reach the European showpiece for the second time in as many campaigns.

It will be the German's third Champions League final as a manager after leading Dortmund to the showpiece in 2013 before reaching the same stage with the Reds last season.

After seeing his teams beaten on both occasions, first by Bayern Munich and then by Real Madrid five years later, the Liverpool boss hopes this year will be third time lucky.

“In Germany we have a saying: ‘All the best things come in threes'," Klopp told UEFA.com, via the club's official website .

“At Mainz, I missed promotion twice and we got promoted in the third season.

“We hope that it will repeat itself for the Champions League. I think it’s quite cool, to be honest.

“It’s a fourth European final for me [including the 2016 Europa League defeat against Sevilla], that’s cool.

"I have had good teams and the players have gone beyond their limits in order to qualify."

Despite recognising the importance of Anfield in the club's recent success in Europe, Klopp also noted that his side has been able to produce crucial away performances when needed during the current campaign - especially against Bayern Munich.

After being held to a 0-0 draw by the Bundesliga giants at home, Livepool won 3-1 at the Allianz Arena to advance to the quarter-finals.

The Premier League rule changes that will come into effect next season

"Throughout the years, we’ve knocked out strong sides like Borussia Dortmund thanks to Anfield," he continued.

“Last season in the Champions League we knocked out a strong Manchester City thanks to Anfield. This year we knocked out Barcelona thanks to Anfield, and of course we beat Bayern. We know that we’ve managed to achieve all that together.

“Anfield is a crucial factor for us in Europe, but the boys have done a great job, we’ve played great football.

"The away game at Bayern Munich was the best away game my team have played at the European level.

"It is great to see that such a development is possible and that we can become even more dominant.

“So far, it’s been a great campaign for us.”
