Jurgen Klopp plan for Naby Keita and Liverpool as Jordan Henderson sends Thiago message

Here is your Liverpool morning digest on Tuesday, February 16.

Klopp reveals Keita plan

Naby Keita will not feature against his former club RB Leipzig this evening despite returning to Liverpool training this week.

Keita has been sidelined for around two months with a hamstring problem and was a surprise participant in the Reds' training session on Monday afternoon.

However, the 26-year-old former Leipzig star was not part of the travelling party that flew to Budapest yesterday.

Jurgen Klopp has opened up on the Guinea international's condition with the Merseyside derby on the horizon.

Klopp said: "He is no longer injured but he is not fit.

"He was in training yesterday but he is not ready yet. We will be away for two days and he will be in training. He would have liked to be there against Leipzig.

"He has had some very great spells but he has had too many injuries. He has played some really great games, scored important goals.

"These injuries were minor things but kicked him out of the team but he has an excellent perspective.

"He is a great player. And when these injuries are behind him, we will have a great player."

Henderson backs Thiago

Thiago Alcantara's start to life at Liverpool hasn't exactly gone to plan, but Reds captain Jordan Henderson has jumped to the midfielder's defence.

Thiago has suffered a difficult time since arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window for an initial £20million.

Injury problems as well as coronavirus struggles had a huge impact on the 29-year-old's start with his new club.

He has, however, been a constant figure in Klopp's side in recent weeks, but has been criticised for not fitting into the way that the German wants to play.

Henderson is confident that the Spaniard will soon demonstrate why the champions swooped for his services last September.

"Thiago has been brilliant since he came to the club," said the Liverpool skipper. "Everybody knows how good a player he is, he is a world-class player.

"Even off the field, he is a really good person, leads by example and gives everything. You learn a lot from him.

"He has been a fantastic addition to the squad.

"He will probably know Leipzig better than anyone and I am sure he will tell us one or two things over the next 24 hours.

"He has settled in really well, like I knew he would. He is a phenomenal player.

"Hopefully he can keep improving each time he plays for us and getting used to the way that we play as a team."
