Jurgen Klopp pays huge compliment to Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs after Champions League final

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised Tottenham Hotspur and Mauricio Pochettino for their work this season despite missing out on the Champions League title.

The German also offered his support to his counterpart after finding himself in the same position last year as Real Madrid beat the Reds in the climax of the competition.

Spurs went into the game as the underdogs, with Liverpool the favourites after a record-breaking campaign for a runner up in the Premier League.

By winning the Champions League, Klopp lifted his first trophy since becoming manager at Anfield while Pochettino is still waiting to win silverware at Tottenham.

However, the Liverpool chief dismissed the idea that Spurs and their season could be viewed in a negative light, and also hailed their performance in Madrid.

"The result was the difference," he said. "Tonight it was a big challenge for both teams after three weeks because you never have three weeks off before a game and it was pretty warm.

"You could see it was a fight. [Alisson] had to make a few saves. Normally I have to explain how we didn’t win a game but not tonight.

"I know how Tottenham feel at this moment better than anyone else in the world.

"They played well and have had a sensational season.

"They should be very proud of what they’ve done this season."

In his post-match press conference, Pochettino confirmed that wanted to sit down for talks over his future to sketch out a new vision for Spurs after reaching a Champions League final.

He is expected to make a number of signings in the summer transfer window if he remains in the dugout to reinvent the Spurs squad.
