Jurgen Klopp outlines further January transfer plans after Takumi Minamino arrival

Jurgen Klopp says that the newly arrived Takumi Minamino will "probably" represent Liverpool's only incoming in the January transfer window.

The Japan international linked up with his new teammates for the first time at a Melwood training session on New Year's Eve, and although he is ineligible to face Sheffield United in the Premier League on Thursday he is expected to make his debut against Everton in the FA Cup this weekend.

No other senior arrivals are expected at Anfield during this month, with Klopp expected to allow Rhian Brewster to join Swansea City on loan and end Nathaniel Clyne's four-and-a-half stint at Liverpool as the right-back nears full recovery from a cruciate ligament injury.

“We will probably not be too busy in the transfer window, we will see but it is unlikely, said Klopp at his press conference on Wednesday.

The German went on to speak of his excitement at signing Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg, although has called for fans to give the attacking midfielder time to get used to the English game.

“It would be crazy if you wouldn't do that (give him time)," he said. "It would be nice if you could give him some time.

“We have a really good football team already and he is an offensive player.

“We have some of the best players in the world but we didn't bring him in to accept like, 'I am number five, six, seven or eight' (as an option in the squad).

“He can play different positions. We want to use his natural skills.

“We will not start filling him now with information immediately, ' you have to do this and that', we want him to be as natural as possible.

“It would be nice if you and all the other people would give him a bit of time.”

Minamino arrives at Anfield having impressed in two Champions League games against the Reds this season, and Klopp wants to see the same again from him.

“Just be that and everything will be fine!" said Klopp.

“In this period of the season especially there will not be 15 weeks until we use him.

“Is he then the finished article in March? I don't know.

“We start learning about each other from now on. He will have all the time he needs but how much time he needs I have no idea.”
