Jurgen Klopp opens up on talks over Simon Mignolet's Liverpool future

Jurgen Klopp is confident Simon Mignolet wants to stay at Liverpool as back-up to Brazilian superstar Alisson.

The 31-year-old Belgian international lost his first team place last season and was limited to just one appearance in the Carabao Cup and another in the FA Cup.

But Klopp values Mignolet as a high-quality reserve and has set about convincing him that his future remains at Anfield.

Those talks have gone well and have left the Pool boss believing that Mignolet is happy to enter the new season as an able deputy for the £66.8 million Alisson.

Klopp said: “Yes. I have had a lot of conversations with him in the last couple of years and - not weeks - but months.

“We spoke before we left (for summer break). I would say, yes (he will stay).

“At a club like Liverpool you need two number ones, at least, in the club. That’s cool with Ali and Simon.

“A good situation for the club and a situation you should have. Everything is fine from my point of view.”

Mignolet has started Liverpool’s pre-season campaign as number one with Alisson making a late start back in England, having played for Brazil this summer.
