Jurgen Klopp has defended his Liverpool side’s gathering to watch Chelsea’s game against Manchester City on Thursday night.
The Reds were confirmed as Premier League champions after the Blues beat Pep Guardiola’s side 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, thanks to goals from Christian Pulisic and Willian.
The result means City are no longer capable of catching the table-topping Reds, whose 30-year wait for a league title has now come to an end.
The entire Liverpool squad gathered at nearby Formby Hall to watch the action unfold at Stamford Bridge as they waited to see whether they would be crowned champions that night, or if they would have to wait a little longer.
They weren’t left disappointed, and videos from some of the players captured the moment their title was confirmed, as well as some of the celebrations afterwards.
A few people questioned why the players had gathered to watch the match though, with social distancing rules still in place amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Klopp responded to those questions as he spoke to the media about his side’s title win on Friday, and insisted there was no risk to anyone.
"We decided after the Palace game (to watch Chelsea v City together),” Klopp said.
“We are in a bubble. We are tested twice a week. No-one else was in there. We had a BBQ and watched it."
The newly-crowned champions have broken the record for winning the title with the most games remaining in the season, with seven fixtures still remaining in the 2019/20 campaign.
They are set to face City next, with games against Arsenal and Chelsea also coming up before the end of the season, with sides set to give them a guard of honour in their remaining games.
