Jurgen Klopp 'opens the door for Philippe Coutinho return' as Liverpool told to sign him

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly open to the idea of re-signing Philippe Coutinho - but Kai Havertz remains at the top of his wishlist.

Liverpool boss Klopp is in the market for an attacking midfielder and has been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Havertz for some time.

Klopp splashed serious cash a few seasons ago when he landed Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, Naby Keita and Fabinho for a combined £230million fee.

Since creating a Champions League winning team, well on their way to winning a first Premier League title this season, Klopp has put the chequebook down.

But this could change when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

According to Express Sport, Klopp is ready to test Leverkusen's resolve over Havertz and should Liverpool be priced out of a deal, then the German may consider resigning Coutinho.

Brazil international Coutinho left Liverpool for Barcelona in a sensational £142million transfer back in 2018.

But things haven't worked out for the 27-year-old, who was sent out on loan to Bayern Munich in the summer, and is facing an uncertain future.

Former Liverpool star Steve McManaman recently suggested the Reds should re-sign Coutinho, as he clearly needs an arm around his shoulder to resurrect his career.

McManaman told HorseRacing.net:"It could be that they opt to bring a certain Philippe Coutinho back to the club. I wouldn't mind seeing Coutinho back. He's a brilliant player but a lot of it is just down to economics.

"If they can bring Coutinho back for a reasonable fee and potentially sell a couple of players who aren't playing regularly, then that could work.

"There are rumours that Xherdan Shaqiri may leave at the end of the season, and Adam Lallana may want to play more often.

"If there's space available then I'd certainly like Coutinho back, as he was a wonderful player for Liverpool. He's that type of player that when plan A isn't working he can change the game.

"He scored some incredible goals for Liverpool and though he'd have to win the fans over after he asked to leave, I think that most fans would recognise how good he was for Liverpool.

"He seems to have lost his way a bit at the minute, he needs a bit of TLC and an arm around him doesn't he?

"So if he wants to come back to Liverpool and the deal was good then I'd have no qualms taking him back because he's a lovely player."
