Jurgen Klopp on why Liverpool would benefit from an England recall for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Jurgen Klopp insists he would welcome an England recall for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain later this month.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has only made one senior appearance for the Reds since recovering from a serious knee injury which kept him sidelined for a year.

However, more game-time over the final stages of the campaign could see him force his way into Gareth Southgate's plans for the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Holland in Portugal on June 6. Klopp believes Liverpool would benefit if the 25-year-old is called up.

“Yes, yeah, of course for Ox each football game would be good,” Klopp said.

“The only thing he lacks now is rhythm, football, 90 minutes, big pitch, all that stuff.

“So of course that’s the only thing. Yeah if Gareth needs him I think it would be good and possible.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain will return to the Liverpool squad to face Newcastle on Saturday after not making the matchday 18 for the midweek Champions League clash with Barcelona.
